We inform you that the procedure for action for occupational risk prevention services in the face of exposure to SARS-CoV-2, published by the Ministry of Health on June 19, 2020, has been updated.
This guide, divided into seven sections and five annexes, is part of the Transition Plan towards a New Normal. To this end, the Ministry of Health published the Strategy for Diagnosis, Surveillance, and Control in the Transition Phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic, dated May 6, 2020, which regulates the obligations and procedures for obtaining and communicating information for epidemiological surveillance related to COVID-19 infection. Its objective is the early detection of any case. It also emphasizes the need to "reinforce personal hygiene measures in all work environments and in any exposure scenario.".
Specifically, the following measures stand out:
- Hand hygiene is the primary measure for preventing and controlling infection.
- Respiratory etiquette:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and dispose of it in a bin with a lid and pedal. If tissues are not available, use the inside of your elbow to avoid contaminating your hands.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Practice good respiratory hygiene habits.
- Maintain physical distancing of at least 1.5 meters
Point two specifies that any details regarding preventive measures "must be based on information gathered through the specific exposure risk assessment, which will always be carried out in accordance with the information provided by the health authorities."
Workers who are especially vulnerable are also defined as those included in groups vulnerable to COVID-19, and are "people with cardiovascular disease, including hypertension, chronic lung disease, diabetes, chronic kidney failure, immunosuppression, cancer in active treatment, severe chronic liver disease, morbid obesity, pregnancy, and those over 60 years of age."
The protocol to follow in case of early detection of cases compatible with Covid-19 is indicated in point five, explaining how the detection, classification, notification and management of cases should be carried out.
Point seven specifies that, "on an exceptional basis, periods of isolation or infection of workers caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in accordance with Article 5 of Royal Decree-Law 6/2020 of March 10, which adopts certain urgent measures in the economic sphere and for the protection of public health, are considered equivalent to a work-related accident, exclusively for the purpose of receiving temporary disability benefits from the Social Security system. The occupational risk prevention service is responsible for preparing the report that certifies the temporary disability (the communication templates are provided in Annex I)."
