First Ambit Breakfast Meeting

Strategy: its planning and execution in SMEs

At Àmbit we are very pleased with the outcome of the first session of this new space for SMEs, which we have called a breakfast meeting, an oasis where we can all share knowledge and experience on subjects as diverse as strategy, taxation, contracting, the responsibility of the company and the entrepreneur, among many others.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and participated in our first meeting, including SMEs, professionals, and authorities. We spent an hour and a half discussing business strategy.

On this occasion we had the privilege of listening to Emilio García, strategy director of Sage Spain, who had the ability to guide us, in a very close and almost natural way, through the different concepts surrounding this discipline.

Personally, I would like to highlight two aspects that I believe are very relevant in strategy planning. The first is summarized in the last image of Emilio's speech, "execution is strategy." From experience, I know that perfect visions, well-reasoned strategies, and meticulously crafted plans crash in execution—that moment when the entire organization, which theoretically understands where it should go, carries out what the plan establishes.

Thinking is easy and almost risk-free; doing is difficult and involves taking risks, making changes, and confronting inertia—those forces that naturally lead people to stagnation. Execution must be carefully managed, because many projects fail at that stage.

The other aspect is also simple, but very important. We agree that strategic planning is good for the company, but why is it such an underutilized tool for SMEs? Emilio pointed out that it's usually a problem of resources and priorities.

That's where Àmbit can provide support, because, as I mentioned in my presentation, our vision is to be the "professional partner of SMEs," and our greatest desire is to contribute our knowledge and experience to company management. I had the opportunity to briefly explain three SME success stories—three Ambit clients who have trusted in our ability to support them in developing their strategies.
