How can we leverage new technologies and teleworking contracts to improve work-life balance?

The use of new technologies will allow for flexibility in work organization and a better work-life balance. And the teleworking contract regulates this new employment relationship

Answering work emails from a smartphone, participating in Skype video conferences, or collaboratively drafting contracts using Google Drive are now commonplace in our work environment. The significant increase in the use of new technologies in recent decades has compelled companies to adopt them and create new work systems. This technological evolution can also facilitate a better work-life balance and greater flexibility in work organization.

To regulate this new employment relationship, we can refer to the new wording of the Workers' Statute dated October 23, 2015. In it, we find the formula of the remote work contract, also called teleworking, which is mainly characterized by the fact that the worker can perform their work from their home or another place without having the obligation to go to the workplace. For this purpose, email, instant messaging, or browsing through websites and intranets become fundamental tools for the development of the remote work contract.

What are the characteristics of a Teleworking contract?

This type of contract is voluntary for the employee and does not require its establishment at the start of the employment relationship. The initial agreed-upon conditions can be modified later to establish a remote contract.

Employees with this type of contract have the same rights as those who work at the company's premises, except for those rights inherent to performing the work in person.

The company must provide the necessary resources to ensure these employees have effective access to vocational training to promote their professional development. Furthermore, to facilitate mobility and advancement, the company must inform them of any job openings requiring in-person work at its facilities.

How is remote dedication guaranteed?

Mechanisms for monitoring working time and actual performance may be established through the implementation of software applications known as accounting software . In any case, any system for monitoring remote work must respect the employee's personal and family privacy.

Who is responsible for providing the equipment for remote work?

The provision of remote services will be carried out using the work equipment made available to the employee by the company, and the employee is obliged to make good use of it, to keep it with due diligence and to return it to the company upon request.
